Toronto, April 17, 2014 – As Ontario touts its first officially-recognized “Equal Pay Day” this week, the wage gap between men and women remains strikingly vast. According to Statistics Canada, that divide is deepening, with women earning less in all occupational categories. Canada’s Women in Biz Network (WIBN) is doing something about the problem, hosting a conference later this month to both empower female entrepreneurs and strengthen their skills.

The founder of WIBN, Leigh Mitchell, says women often walk away from their business dreams: “The infrastructure doesn’t exist to bolster females in our economy. Women are expected to improvise and create our own solutions without help. The astronomical cost of daycare alone creates a chilling effect for mothers who wish to return to the work force.” WIBN provides free childcare for their conference attendees – making personal business development possible for women with families.

A working mother herself, Mitchell successfully runs her own business coaching and mentoring entrepreneurs. The culmination of her efforts takes place April 28, when WIBN hosts its Passion to Profit conference at the Hyatt Regency Toronto. Kelsey Ramsden, Profit magazine’s Top Female Entrepreneur in 2012 and 2013, will deliver the opening keynote.

“Your business is only as strong as your network,” says Mitchell.  “Helping female entrepreneurs confidently grow their businesses in smart, measurable, and sustainable ways is what the Women in Biz Conference is all about.”
