Julie-Waterhouse

Biography

Julie Waterhouse is a web developer with over 25 years of experience in the IT field. After working for IBM for over 18 years, she left to pursue the adventure of owning her own business. She now builds and maintains WordPress websites for small business owners, as well as teaching others to “DIY.”

How can your experience or your business help fellow conference attendees?

I specialise in helping “techno-timid” entrepreneurs reduce their website stress and frustration. I can help you take control of the technology behind your business, so that you can spend more time with your clients and your core business priorities. Specifically, I build new, or enhance existing WordPress websites, as well as providing training on maintaining your own website. I also provide coaching for business owners who are about to embark on a new website design, to make sure they build the *right* website to meet their business needs.

What do you hope to take away from the conference?

I’m looking forward to meeting like-minded business owners. I also want to learn how I can further merge my business passion (empowering women business owners by making the technology behind their businesses feel comfortable instead of intimidating) with my desire to empower women around the world. I’m currently supporting Plan Canada’s “Because I am a Girl” campaign through one of my business offerings. I’d like to understand how I can make this connection stronger.

What do you think is our greatest social problem today? Any suggestions to solve it?

The oppression and disadvantages that so many women around the world face is a massive problem. I think that helping to provide safety and education for young girls will help. Studies have shown that raising the standard of living for a girl, she will turn around and use her benefits to help her family and community in turn. I’m a big fan of the Because I am a Girl Campaign: http://becauseiamagirl.ca

What is the most inspiring book you have read?

Ever? Tough call. But I’ve just finished E-Squared and am working my way through the exercises now:
