Sping Shoes 2014

Spring finally arrived last week and, unsurprisingly, my expectations of cartoon robins and bluebirds accompanied by strands of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons materializing at precisely 12:57 PM on March 20th were quickly dashed. So while we may not be able to put our Sorrels away just yet, we might as well still work under the assumption that at some point the snow will melt, the pavement will dry, and some wonderful new shoes will be in order. This spring and summer the flat, our most practical friend, will rule the street; but don’t fret—functional can be fancy, as demonstrated below.

The Transition Boot: Hunters are great, but they’re nothing new, and you certainly don’t need me pointing out that they exist. This spring, I’m looking at a new shape for my puddle jumping needs—the Chelsea.

LR Rain Slip On – $150 (loefflerrandall.com)

The Sneaker: My New Balance 410s are going to be getting a serious workout this spring; they come in such great colours, and they are seriously on point, trend-wise. Try pairing them with a pencil skirt or a shirt dress to take the whole commuter sneaker look to a higher plane (pom-pom socks optional).

New Balance for JCrew – $94 (jcrew.com)

The Sunny Espadrille: Tom’s is doing a collaboration with Jonathan Adler and this yellow pair are too adorable (and you know insanely comfortable) – add the One for One factor and it’s a win win.

Jonathan Adler for Toms – $69 (toms.com)

The Dress Flat: Sometimes you need to fancy things up a notch, but aren’t feeling a heel. This pair from Zara, with a touch of gold around the ankle, add some swish without a hefty price tag.

Pointy Toe Ankle Strap Flat – $59.90 (zara.com)

The Slide: This is the shoe of the season—Isabel Marant, Marni, Chloé, Zara, even Joe Fresh have a pair on offer. While I’m going to take the “literal” approach, and wear my actual Birkenstocks, I can still dream.

Marni Leather Slip On – $780 (ssense.com)

The Everyday Sandal: I love Everlane maybe more than I should (or maybe not—ethical manufacturing, extreme attention to quality, serious style), and I just got their sandal, and I want to tell everyone about it.

EverlaneCognac

Everlane Cognac Sandal – $105 (everlane.com)

The Just Because: While I do find myself, as I get older, reaching for the more practical, multi-season options, sometimes a girl’s got to buy a pair because they’re just too cute.
