See Alison on the Main #SocialforGood Conference Stage – Session: Be a Trendsetter – Podcasting for Social Good
Social good is at the heart of our lives online. By connecting and creating community, we can do incredible things for others. For me and many others, podcasting has become a favourite way to create content, build and communicate with community. I will share why I started podcasting, some stories of how podcasting has been instrumental in creating social good, and how the audience can use the tool of podcasting to create social good in their communities.

Tell us about your business
UnMarketing was founded by Scott Stratten, an expert in Viral Social, and Authentic Marketing which he calls Un-Marketing. It’s all about positioning yourself as a trusted expert in front of your target market, so when they have the need, they choose you. Scott and Alison are cohosts of not only The UnPodcast, but five children, two dogs and two cats. UnSelling is their fourth best-selling book together, which represent their thoughts on the changing world of business through their experiences of entrepreneurship, two degrees (Alison), not lasting long as an employee (both) and screaming at audiences around the world (Scott, Alison is more polite). They were put on this earth to remind the world that not all Canadians are passively polite. Businesses like PepsiCo, Saks Fifth Avenue, Cirque du Soleil and others have been brave enough to want their advice, to the point that Scott has been named one of the Top 5 Social Media Influencers in the world by Forbes.com. They now spend their time keynoting around the world and realize they rank 10th and 11th in order of importance in their home.
How are you hoping to connect with conference attendees?
I’m excited to be part of the conference and looking forward to meeting others interested in the incredible potential we all have for creating social good. I hope everyone will enjoy learning about podcasting and sharing some great questions – I’m one of these crazy people who love Q & A! I will be around for the conference, and hope to meet and chat with lots of you!
What advice would you give conference attendees?
As someone who has been to a bunch of conferences, here are some of the most important things I’ve learned:
1. Conferences, like all things in life and business are opportunities – decide what you want to get from them and then make it happen.
2. How you feel is much, much, much more important than how you look. Be comfortable and be yourself. A real smile is worth a thousand pairs of nice shoes.
3. Take the word “just” out of your vocabulary. We all want to know what you bring to the conference and there is nothing “just” about it.
4. Please come and introduce yourself to me 🙂
