A girl loves choices – Why I need Microsoft Office 365
I am a girl who really loves making the most of choices. If you offer me chocolate or strawberry ice cream I want them both in the bowl. If my husband and I go out for dinner I always make him order something I am going to like too so we can share. I hate limiting myself. That’s why I love the new #Office365 platform from Microsoft. It gives me all the choices and is super flexible. These are the solutions that savvy self employed women need and want and it seems Microsoft is listening.
Where’s your office?
Some other self employed friends and I were recently joking about the weirdest places we’d conducted business as a self employed woman. Here are a few places that I have called ‘the office’ :
- My car- you can often find me on the laptop or smartphone getting caught up (sometimes secretly in my driveway in the dark….avoiding my children when I have just come home) with the WIFI signal just accessible – also in parking spots before or after a meeting.
- The boiler room – let me tell you, sometimes a girl has got to be tricky to fit in a phone call, especially if you have kids in the house and someone important calls outside of your office hours. I have received a few very important calls in the boiler room. Why? Well it is sound insulated and provides great white noise so it can’t be detected where I am.
- The park – I have called the picnic table at High Park ‘the office’ while waiting to pick my son up from camp.
- At the cottage – I spend quite a bit of time up North enjoying the great outdoors over the summer months. I actually did find a few choice signal hot spots out of cottage windows and around certain fire pits.
- Vacations & business trips – My office has been at the pool and on hotel balconies too – self employed people rarely can leave work behind behind. In fact most of my trips are business and vacation together. So a flexible office is extremely important to keep business moving.
With an unpredictable schedule I need flexibility, tons of options and current equipment because guess what? There is no I.T. Department at my home office.
Office 365 Subscriptions the answer to my prayers!
You can install Office 365 on up to five Mac or PC computers. You can even install it on a family member’s computer.
- On the computer where you want to install Office, go to your account page.
- Under Available Installs, choose Office for Windows or Office for Mac, and then click Install.
- If you’re installing on a PC, Office will install automatically.

Here is a very cool comparison of all the subscription options – whether you are using it for business, as a student or home use they have really great options to choose from. The best thing is you will always have up to date software to use! How cool is that?
What I use:
The option I am using is the Office 365 Home Premium – this provides me with: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Onenote. Outlook, Publisher – (one of my faves – I will write about this one next), Access, Skydrive and Skype! It is only $10 a month or you can buy for the whole year for only $99.00.
