This uber chic Women in Biz member will have you dressed for success in a blink of an eye. Not only is Laura Curran of Style by Lu a personal stylist and wardrobe consultant, but she is also an experienced event and wedding planner.  Make sure you have her on speed dial, ladies!

1. Tell us about your business.

I am a certified image consultant from George Brown College, certified wedding planner from the Wedding Planners Institute of Canada & have extensive experience in marketing & image branding with various agencies & organizations in Toronto.

My goal is to make clients feel fabulous – whether it be through an organized closet, the perfect outfit for a date or an elegantly planned wedding. Working one-on-one with my clients is what makes my job so enjoyable, exciting and challenging. I find it incredibly rewarding when I see my clients appreciating themselves, feeling more confident and loving their new clothes, all in the space of a few hours!

No closet, event, or wardrobe crisis is too big of a task for me to handle. I love a challenge & can be just what a client needs to take their event, wardrobe, or style to the next level!

2. Other than being an entrepreneur, who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a shopaholic & fashionista who loves vintage, mixing the old with the new, and travelling. I am passionate about family, friends, and Style By Lu. I love meeting new people and learning from them.

3. What motivated you to go into business for yourself?

I have always been an entrepreneur at heart and passionate about Fashion. With friends & family I have always been the go to person for events, weddings, and styling. I decided to take my passion and make it a reality – and born was Style By Lu.

4. How do you overcome challenges and obstacles in your business?

What I have learned thus far is to surround yourself around people that strive for excellence, who you can learn from, and who want to see you succeed. The road isn’t always smooth – but I enjoy the unexpected and always celebrate successes, big or small. Don’t forget to ask for help, ask questions, and challenge yourself!

5. What are your greatest strengths as an entrepreneur?

My greatest strength was taking my passion for styling and event planning and turning it into a business. Taking an idea and running with it!

Another strength would be my ability to take risks, ask for help, and to learn from others.

Having the confidence to say, "I am good at what I do – and will not devalue my services".  Not everyone can understand the amount of work it takes to do what you do & everyone has their own individual spin on their business – I am who I am, I am good at what I do, and as an entrepreneur you have to be confident in your ability and work it!

6. What are you most passionate about in your business?

My clients. Honestly, the entire process of working with a client from beginning to end and seeing the final product is the best! We have fun, laughs, and really develop a special relationship that makes the entire process just a blast. Not only do I learn from other entrepreneurs but I learn from my clients. My clients are my passion.

7. What is one piece of helpful advice you would give to other entrepreneurs?

Work hard, don’t give up, ask questions, and take risks!
