MOOD Summer 2015_Final1

Aloha to summer, at last! Here’s to spending as much time as possible with our feet in the sand or at least sans socks.

When I dream of summer, I think of easy dresses and tanned skin. I see dashes of bright colour and sun kissed make up. Hair is loose and air dried or piled high on my head. The longer days reveal an inherent ease and freedom, especially in how we choose to dress.

An exciting shift for me this summer has been the opportunity to finally wear pieces from my own debut collection of clothing. So far, it’s been a fun and empowering way to meet each day!

The cooler temps of June gave me the chance to rock my Perfect jumpsuit day in and day out. Honestly, I was wearing that suit a couple times a week, at least. Long live the jumpsuit! Now that temps are rising and the humidity is saying hello, I find myself reaching for my Soleil dress or my Willy muscle tee and Jake tank along with my Aloha shorts. A favourite Isabel Marant peasant blouse also remains in heavy rotation.

On those days when I am yearning for a relaxed, 70’s jet set vibe, I layer my Mitchell slip dress under a gauzy Black Crane caftan dress in the perfect shade of navy. Raquel Allegra has done a super cool version in Madras plaid which is currently on my radar. Old Levi’s cutoffs remain my go-to staple for cottage weekends in the Minden Hills. This year I am pairing them with my Janet tunic or Delilah floral print blouse.

The Jules dress in black or ivory is my after 6pm choice. Made of raw silk it is the perfect weight for evenings spent with friends. I also like working it with my slouchy boyfriend jeans. My summer dressing wouldn’t be complete without a couple of new swimsuits to maximize my time spent reading on the dock and playing in the water. This year I’m coveting anything by Laura Urbinati or Prism, paired with a wide brimmed straw hat by Albertus Swanepoel.

What are you wearing to feel stylish this summer? I’m curious to know which favourite pieces are keeping you cool in this beautiful summer heat…
