Women in Biz Conference…

Addressing Issues that Matter

Toronto, ON: There are currently 1,000,000 Canadian women who own a small business and in Canada, self-employed women make up a larger share of the population than in any other country contributing $19 million to the economy each year. On May 30, 2011, some of these women entrepreneurs will gather at the Novotel Toronto Centre in downtown Toronto, for an exclusive conference dedicated to inspiring, connecting, sharing and educating on business development and growth. The sold-out event will have a star-studded speaker list including some of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs, some of the fastest growing small businesses and social media savvy tweeps.

“We are thrilled to have such a wide-range of successful women speaking and sharing at our inaugural conference,” says Leigh Mitchell, President Women in Biz Network. “From Julie Cole to Kerry Owen to Sarah Thomson, I know all attendees will leave here full of new, inspiring ideas as well as concrete information and tactics they can immediately implement into their businesses.”

The one-day conference will be jammed packed with five, one-hour sessions inclusive of panel discussions and question periods. This is followed at the end of the day with an interactive ‘Think Tank’ led by author, media personality and journalist, Kathy Buckworth. The sessions will review everything from business planning to branding, to marketing and PR, and even the buzz word of late, Social Media.

“What makes this event different is that the speakers and panelists are practicing what they preach,” says Shelagh Cummins, Director of Training & Community for the Women in Biz Network. “We wanted to present our aspiring entrepreneurs with women they could relate to; women who recently were in their shoes, trying to navigate and make so many challenging decisions, not people who were 20 plus years removed from this reality. We also wanted to make the conference accessible, and so priced admission to suit the budgets of our entrepreneurs.”
