I used to run half marathons. I remember during the training in winter months having my hat freeze, my nose run and my sneakers would end up wet. I slipped and fell a few times too. Then I gave it up for a while as I found it too hard to manage life – 2 kids and a baby business born made dedicating time to running a low priority.

I decided this holiday season that I would change all that. I knew that being a runner keeps your mind strong and your energy high.

Braving the cold elements helps you to believe in yourself and running by yourself helps you to clear your head and tap into your creativity.

Here are some tips for you to consider:

  • Running with a friend or a group helps you to work as a team and motivate each other to keep going and not to give up.

  • Nothing beats winter running for the thrill of the success – set weekly goals for yourself.

  • Winter running is attainable and fun (yes I said fun) – dress in layers and start slowly.

You will be surprised at how addictive it can be and when you do get those odd sunny days a run feels like heaven. When your cold body warms up in shower you will feel like a rock star (a healthy one).
