Helping mompreneurs blend work with family is what the Mom Biz Coach is all about. Lara Galloway is a mom and entreprenuer who truly loves her role as coach and making a difference in women’s lives.

1. Tell us about your business.

As the Mom Biz Coach, I run a coaching, training and consulting company that helps mompreneurs build and grow successful businesses while raising a family. I have a ball speaking to groups on topics ranging from time management to following your passion to building your brand via Social Media.I’m the co-founder of the Mom Biz Retreat, a weekend getaway for mompreneurs to work on their businesses and on themselves. That’s a whole lot of fun! I also run a membership/group coaching program called the Mom Biz Academy: The ‘MBA’ for Mompreneurs, and take on private coaching clients when possible.

2. Other than being an entrepreneur, who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I’m a southern girl born in Augusta, GA, who is trying to adapt to Midwest living. That means learning to live without seeing the sun for several months a year, which is a challenge for me. I keep myself busy hiking, cooking, baking, drinking microbrew beers and cheap wine and am easily amused by my three (mostly) charming children, aged 5, 7 and 9. I married my high school sweetheart 13 years ago and have a lot of appreciation for my husband’s tolerance of an entrepreneurial wife.

3. What motivated you to go into business for yourself?

In a nutshell, I was going nuts as a stay-at-home-mom. I’m an extrovert, I’m smart, and I like challenges (beyond things I consider totally mundane like laundry and unloading the dishwasher). Motherhood was the toughest challenge I’ve ever had (still is!), but it didn’t use up all the gifts, strengths and ambition I have. I suffered Post Partum Depression with my second child and finally got the wake-up call I needed to make some changes and do something that would satisfy my creativity and drive. I enrolled in a life coach certification program and started coaching, and found a great fit for my natural gifts. Every time I coached a client, I felt energized, excited and full. So little by little, I built a business out of my new-found passion. I did it for fulfillment.

4. How do you overcome challenges and obstacles in your business?

The biggest challenge I have in my business is time, just like most other mompreneurs. I always wish I had more of it. If I did, I’d sleep more, snuggle on the couch with my kids more, travel more and work more. We all want more time to do the things we love to do. To solve that, I take a look at what’s happening in my life right now, and then consider what goals I have for the future. I pick two or three priorities to focus on that make sense for my lifestyle at the moment and gel with my goals, and I just do those. I know that I will make time for those other things I want to do when my priorities change as the kids get older.

5. What are your greatest strengths as an entrepreneur?

I don’t just think about things and analyze them to death. Instead, I DO stuff! I launched the MomBizAcademy about two weeks after I came up with the idea. If I have a great idea, I make it happen immediately. I trust my gut and give it my all! I’d rather get something done than have it be perfect. I can always tweak it and allow it to evolve as I get feedback.

6. What are you most passionate about in your business?

Helping other women figure out how to make themselves happy. It’s something most people don’t realize they have a choice about. I get a huge charge out of helping a mom see how powerful she is and how she can control how things go in her life and business. Creating a business from your passions and in a way that works with your priorities is hugely fun for me, and I love helping other women find the same happiness I have.

7. What is one piece of helpful advice you would give to other entrepreneurs?

Get help. Period. Being an entrepreneur usually means doing something that someone else hasn’t done in exactly the same way you’re going to do it, so how can you expect to know how to do it well? Being a "mom entrepreneur" means throwing another whole set of crazy circumstances on top of that. Wanna be successful? Wanna be happy? Get a mentor to help pull you forward and kick some of the clutter out of the way. Big happy satisfaction.
