The Government of Canada’s “Women’s Program” offers funding opportunities for organizations taking on projects that will further the Program’s goals. The Women’s program states that they have three “priority areas”:

  1. Ending violence against women and girls
  2. Improving women’s and girls’ economic security and prosperity
  3. Encouraging women and girls in leadership and decision-making roles

The Program is a fantastic chance to get your project funded and up and running!  The funding provided may be used for your project’s travel expenses, salaries and benefits, supplies, facilities, office equipment, and publicity and promotion.

How does it work?

There are two ways you can apply.

TARGETED CALLS – The Program will occasionally call for proposals concerning particular projects. You would need to propose a specific project that is in line with that goal by a specified date. There are no current open calls. Past targeted calls have focused on women’s empowerment, increasing economic prosperity for women and helping communities respond to cyber and sexual violence.

GENERAL APPLICATIONS – You are welcome to submit your own proposal at any time. To be eligible, an applicant organization must either be a not-for-profit organization or a for-profit organization, “if the nature and intent of the funded activity is non-commercial and not intended to generate profit”.

The proposed project must be 36 months or less, involve one of the Program’s priority areas, and “involve women who are affected by the issue being addressed by the project”.
