The You’re Almost There Girl is everywhere. It’s you, me, your sister, mom, best friend, colleague, the girl down the street and the person who packs your groceries. She is of any age, socio and economic status.
The You’re Almost There Girl has it going on in one or more areas of her life but in others a gap exists between where she stands and where she aches to be. What she wants appears to be just out of her reach and no matter what she does or tries, she can’t seem to grab it.
All of us who find ourselves in this situation are asking the same question, “How do I
get what I want? What do I have to do? How do I bridge the gap between where I stand and where I ache to be?” And it is an ache. Esther knows what she speaks of because she’s been there.

The Art of Marketing Inc. was created in 1999 by Wendy Marlow in response to the growing need for marketing and sales expertise for small businesses.
In the late 90′s, research revealed that people were leaving their corporate jobs (both voluntarily and involuntarily) and starting their own business to enhance their quality of life and/or generate an income. What Wendy noticed was that while people were proficient in their craft, they were not proficient in marketing and sales. Through an ingenious survey, Wendy was able to identify and confirm the 3 biggest obstacles small business owners face: (1) finance (2) marketing and (3) sales. In particular, small business owners identified “getting their name out there” as their most complex of tasks, and often the one ignored. Ask Wendy about her ingenious survey that resulted in a >95% response rate.
Wendy Marlow worked in corporate environments for more than 25 years, 19 of them with a health care company in Mississauga. As the company grew, so did Wendy’s responsibilities and knowledge base. She did everything from buying cars and office furniture to creating incentive travel and bonus/recognition programs. But it was in marketing that she found her passion, drive and the creative expression she loved. In 1999 Wendy left her corporate life behind as she spread her entrepreneurial wings. She has never regretted her decision and is profoundly thankful for her corporate experience.

Elaine Slatter, the owner of XL Consulting Group, has over 30 years experience in Corporate Management, Small Business Ownership and Marketing, making her your ideal specialist for small business coaching in areas of business planning, marketing strategy and implementation of marketing programs. Elaine is a graduate of McMaster University in Hamilton, Sheridan College, Oakville, (Canada) and Bournemouth College (UK) with business and marketing as specialties. Elaine has also specialization certificates in entrepreneurship from Case Western University, Cleveland, Ohio and University of Maryland College Park, MD.
After graduating, Elaine has had varied Management experience with different Corporations in the GTA, with the last posting being General Manager of the Canadian Division of a US based Multinational Corporation. In this role, Elaine used business coaching techniques to establish her Canadian management team as a leading group within the Company. In addition, Elaine has been a small business owner of a fast food restaurant and understands the challenges small businesses face.
As part of giving back to the business community, Elaine is also a business and marketing coach mentor for the Futurpreneur Program, an intermediary organization assisting young entrepreneurs.. As a Sage Mentor for Futurpreneur Canada she is often asked to join mentoring forums and critique program materials. She has also been a SheEO advisor, helping four young women entrepreneur startups with business and marketing strategy. Recently Elaine was asked to be an online Community Mentor for the Case Western University course, Beyond Silicon Valley: Entrepreneurship in Transitioning Economies and an advisor to the online educational platform, Coursera.
Elaine also serves on the golf task force for the annual Burlington Chamber of Commerce golf tournament. The task force raises money for local students who want to study business at university and other Chamber initiatives. In addition Elaine works on the Marketing Committee, writing for the Chamber Review magazine and working with other members of the committee on marketing strategies for the Chamber.

Mary Webb is a graduate of the University of Toronto. She worked in advertising and marketing for over 25 years for companies including J.Walter Thompson, BBDO, and Corus Entertainment. During her tenure with these companies Mary helped develop advertising and media strategies for large multi-national companies.
After a long and successful career in the corporate world, Mary bought her own business where she can help others improve their health, appearance, and morale. As the owner and director of the Zerona Laser Therapy Clinic in Burlington Ontario, Mary now helps people loose unwanted fat and/or treat pain using the latest FDA and Health Canada approved technologies of low level laser therapies.
