Meet New Canadian Women in Business Member Emily Schooley of Laughing Cat Creative

We asked Emily to tell us how she found her passion:

299fe36“As a creative, intuitive soul at the core, I’d spent most of my time since graduating university working office jobs for other organizations. I’ve been on my own since I was 17, so I was determined to make as much money as I could, in order to pay off my student loans as quickly as possible and to ensure that my cats and I could continue eating. At one point I ended up with a 60 hour work week – starting at 8 am and finishing somewhere between 8 or 10 pm each night… then getting up and doing it again the next day! When I wasn’t working, I was looking for opportunities to pursue acting, my first career love and what I went to school for.

The only problem was that most of the organizations I was working for didn’t really value the arts or my loyalty to them… and along with the insane hours I was putting in, I got very close to burning out through constantly giving and getting nothing back. I went through this cycle of burnout with at least three different companies in four years. Finally, as I was leaving the last company I worked with, I had begun working through The Artist’s Way, and around the same time, discovered the amazing video blogs of Marie Forleo, who was the first woman to talk about being a multi-passionate entrepreneur.

From Marie, I got the affirmation I needed that it was totally awesome to have more than one passion! From my self-development work, I came to realize that what I wanted more than anything was to be able to help people using the areas where my passions and talents are strongest, instead of just “so-so”.

From these epiphanies, Laughing Cat Creative was born. Now, I serve individuals and businesses primarily through creating awesome written, photo and video media for them (that’s the media production side of things!) and through using my intuitive nature, creating amazing adventures and breakthrough solo coaching sessions to help people get unstuck and seriously level up (that’s the creative consulting). Oh, and because I am so closely tied with the acting community, I still do my best to take care of fellow actors as well to support them in their careers.

If you want to see multi-passion in action, please check out my website: http://laughingcat.ca – I’d love to help bring revolutionary awesomeness into your life too!”
