Why Copywriting is Crucial for Better Web Design

Ever see web sites with confusing wording or verbose text? What about those sites that are riddled with grammatical and spelling mistakes? There’s a good chance those business owners left their web site copy to the last minute.

Rushing to include content just because you have to have words on the page can detract from the overall effectiveness of your site, and send potential customers packing no matter how awesome your web designer.

Common copy writing mistakes

Many entrepreneurs choose to write their own web site copy, and that isn’t always a bad thing. The business owner’s voice is more likely to come through if he or she writes the copy. However, most entrepreneurs aren’t writers. The writing process can take a long time. It can be frustrating to find the right words.

Some people even try to write in their second language. So what happens? They put it off until the very last minute – the minute the web designer is knocking on their door saying "NOW!"

When this happens, the text is rarely as compelling as it could be. Copy should never be an afterthought. It’s a crucial part of your online presence. Your customers want to read about your service so they will know whether or not you can help them. If your web copy is sub-par, the customers won’t get it, and they’ll buy from someone else, even if your product is better.

If you’re not totally confident that you can create compelling, keyword-friendly copy in time for the development and launch of your web site, consider hiring someone to do it for you. Having great copy sooner means you’ll make money faster. And I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want that.
